Why do people want to hike the Huayna Picchu? For many great reasons!

  • Hiking the Huayna Picchu is the ultimate adventure for adrenaline-seeking travelers; the summit is at 353 meters from the citadel, and with dizzying drops all around, dotted with Inca constructions
  • It is also a sure magnet for those looking for defeating and prevailing over natural challenges: the steep hiking, the rarified, “thinner” air, the uneven terrain and more
  • Along the hike, there is a great plus, which are the archaeological remains of the constructions the Incas were inspired enough to build; for instance, the mysterious Temple of the Moon and a variety of stone altars

Huayna Picchu Tour Hiking Options

The Short Trail

  • It is of moderate difficulty, but available to most people at all ages
  • The ascent to the summit takes from 1:30 to 2:00 hours
  • Be prepared to use your feet and also to cling to stones and branches while hiking up to give you more traction!
  • Bring your camera!
  • You should also bring: good hiking boots and proper hiking clothes (polyester t-shirts, nylon pants -better convertible-, sun hat, sunglasses, gloves
  • A medium-size backpack, snacks, bottled water, sunblock, insect repellent, a walking pole and don’t forget your passport

The Long Trail

  • It is of moderate difficulty to challenging, so make sure you’re in good shape
  • It takes from 3:30 to 4:00 hours to complete it!
  • What you should bring: a good, efficient hiking gear, like in clothing and boots; always a sun hat, sunglasses, sunblock and in your backpack, some snacks, plenty of bottled water, insect repellent, antiseptic pads and varied size bandages in case you have a scratch
  • Don’t forget your camera and your passport!
