A discovery has put the Inca archaeology in the highlight again. New Incan ruins were unveiled for the first time in the Cusco region. Peruvian authorities are already aware of this discovery and have sent an expedition to perform archaeological works to explore the new ruins.

The history is back again: Locals discover hidden Inca ruins

The discovery was made near the village of Sacramento. As the local farmers said, it is an old stone citadel that has an extension of 5 acres (2 hectares) approximately. To reach the zone of discovery, a journey of more than 12 hours from Cusco City is needed.

These new ruins are still covered by dense vegetation and are only visible to the expert eye. A very similar situation to the discovery of Machu Picchu, back in 1911 when Hiram Bingham led an expedition to explore the Incan ruins hidden at the top of a mountain.

Some people have compared the new ruins with the Paititi, or the Lost City of the Incas. As the location of Paititi is unknown, lots of expeditions have tried to find this mythical citadel.

Peruvian authorities have started the valorization

The Peruvian Department of Culture sent experts in archaeological affairs to perform the recognition and first professional works. This includes getting the geolocalization information, description of the access ways, identification of the style of architecture, and more.

There are some pictures of the first official expedition that show walls made of stones and even a small construction similar to a hut, both covered in mud and vegetation. The reports also show that there are corridors, farming terraces, and even small houses built in Inca style.
