The Inca Jungle trek to Machu Picchu is not just an alternative to the Inca Trail,

Is the Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu for you? On the first day of the Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu you will be riding downhill for at least 5 hours, and on this day you do not carry your own belongings as there is a support car for this. On the second day of the Inca Jungle you will carry all your things while you trek and the third day of this trek you carry your belongings for only two hours. There are no porters on this trip (Inca Jungle Trek)! You will also be staying in shared accommodation. You should only take a small backpack with you, and leave your big backpack at your accommodation in Cusco while on this trek.

Detailed Itinerary of the Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu
DAY 1 of the Inca Jungle Trek: CUSCO - SANTA MARIA (Bike). Pick up from the hostel between 6:00 to 6:30; departure towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where we can appreciate the beautiful and scenic nature and cultural landscapes of the Inca Jungle to Machu Picchu. At about noon we will arrive to Abra Malaga, at an altitude of 4316m, this is the starting point of the bike ride towards the high forest. 4 to 5 hours biking, passing through small villages, orchards, rivers and streams, reaching the Huamanmarca archaeological site where there will be some free time before deciding whether to continue biking or to jump in a car to the town of Santa Maria. Here we will spend our first night in a local family's home.
DAY 2 of the Inca Jungle Trek: SANTA MARIA - SANTA TERESA (Walk). We get up around 6:00 to have breakfast, then begin our long walk by the river bank. We will climb up the m
ountain for about 1 ½ hours, to the highest point, where we can admire the entire valley and the slopes of the canyon. A section of this hike is part of an original Inca trail that reached the village of Quellomayo, and here we will have a delicious lunch. After a short break, we will continue the walk along the old road to Santa Teresa, and stop for our second night in a local family's house.
DAY 3 of the Inca Jungle Trek: SANTA TERESA - MACHU PICCHU TOWN (Hike). This day we take a bus from Santa Teresa to Lucmabamba, where we will start a 2-hour walk to the ruins of Llactapata. After a guided visit of the site we will be descending for about 1 hour to a hydroelectric station, where we will appreciate the waterfalls from the glaciers as well as some Coca and Coffee plantations. At the hydroelectric plant we will have lunch, and in the afternoon will continue walking along the railroad to reach the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Pichu). He
re we will dine and check-in at our hostel at the foot of the great Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
DAY 4 of the Inca Jungle Trek: MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO (walk and visit of the Inca city of Machu Picchu). Around 4:00 a.m. we will get ready to climb a jungle path towards the Inca City of Machu Picchu in order to enjoy the sunrise, before registering at the park control at about 6:20. The tour guide will lead you around Machu Picchu for about two hours and then you will have free time to explore the ruins of Machu Picchu on your own and have a short visit of Huayna Picchu from where you will have a great view of the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The amount of free time will depend on the departure time of your train from Aguas Caliente to ollantaytambo. Return to Cusco by bus and end of the tour. 
The Inca Jungle Trek Includes: Pick up from the Hostel, all transportation, front suspension bikes, helmets and gloves, meals (3 Lunches, 3 Dinners, 3 Breakfasts - vegetarian option available), 2 nights in a shelter house with basic service, 1 night guesthouse (with private bathroom and hot water), entrance into Machu Picchu, English and Spanish speaking guide, return train to Ollantaytambo and tourist bus to Cusco, assistant (for 10 passengers), First Aid Kit.
