December 2024 Inca Trail Availability. Permits sell out quickly in advance and because of this, we recommend that you start booking 4 or 5 months prior, to avoid frustrations. Obtainable dates for the Classic Inca Trail in December 2024 are available below, check them and then proceed with the booking. If there is no availability on the days you are interested in, please check other possible months. Weather in the Cusco Region – December 2024

Climate is warm and quite rainy. In daytime, weather is mostly warm, however, have a rain poncho or impermeable coat at hand, because hard although brief rains may occur. At high elevations, temperatures tend to drop, especially at night, so bring warm clothes too. Remember that as we get lower and closer to Machu Picchu, climate gets subtropical, that is, even hotter, but there’s always the chance of downfall. 

Typical Celebrations in December 2024

  • Immaculate Virgin.  On December 8th. Very traditional festivity in town. The statue of the Virgin is taken out of the Cusco Cathedral in massive procession, many women ask for her blessing since she is a symbol of conception. 
  • Santurantikuy Christmas Fair. A really typical event in Cusco City. Vendors gather at the Plaza de Armas (Main Square) for selIing all kinds of Nativity figurines in Andean costumes, and other types of souvenirs. Know much more about it in our article about the Santurantikuy street fair.
  • New Year’s Eve. It’s a wonderful time in Cusco! You should check our blog entry about our wonders for the 2024 holidays. Also, there’s a marvelous tradition in Cusco City: thousands of people gather at the Plaza de Armas (Main Square) to celebrate, with live music, dancing, plenty of beer and socializing.
