Visiting the Intihuatana is another reason to travel to Machu Picchu since the stone obelisk structure stands apart from the rest of the surroundings, and  it likely served as a sacred or even sacrificial site during the winter solstice. Researchers believe that it held significance as an astronomical marker or calendar system. The Intihuatana was used to mark the passage of time.

Why else travel to Machu picchu? The Waynapicchu is the hill which offers panoramic views of the greatness of the citadel of Machu Picchu and it is also the location of secondary archaeological groups. Another important reason to travel to Machu Picchu is to visit the Moon Temple and the Great Cave.
