    DESCRIPTION OF PLACES TO VISIT

This beautiful experience will give us space to learn more about cultures that still keep their customs alive. The places we’ll visit are:

    • Floating Islands of the Uros: These are structures made of totora, an aquatic plant that grows in Lake Titicaca. These islands float on the water, supported by blocks of totora roots and interlaced layers of this same plant. The Uros, ancestral inhabitants, are mainly found on the Collao Plateau, Peru, specifically on the floating islands in the bay of Puno.
    • Their lifestyle revolves around a culture rooted in the lake, utilizing the totora that grows at the bottom of the lake and fishing, practices dating back over 2562 years. To build the islands, they weave the totoras from the densest areas, forming a natural layer they call “khili.” They build their homes on this layer, also woven from totora and known as “mats.” Each dwelling is a single room, and they cook outdoors as a precaution against fires.

    • Natural Island of Taquile: It is renowned for its outstanding textile tradition, where both men and women, regardless of age, actively participate in creating traditional garments. This ancestral practice dates back to the Inca, Pukara, and Colla civilizations and has persisted to the present, preserving pre-Hispanic cultural elements. The locals’ skill in creating high-quality textiles has gained worldwide recognition by UNESCO and is an essential element in the island’s daily life and cultural identity.
    • In Taquile, weaving is a shared labor, with women responsible for the sewing and men for the weaving. This learning starts early, at eight years old, and is an integral part of life on the island. One of the main artisanal products is the iconic “chuyo” hats, widely worn by the island’s inhabitants.
    • Taquile community has an approximate population of 2 thousand inhabitants, the main village is at an altitude of 3950 meters above sea level, and the island’s highest point reaches 4050 meters above sea level.
    • Amantani Island: One of the largest islands in Lake Titicaca, it offers a rich variety of activities centered around agriculture, textile production, and stone craftsmanship. Its population is organized into ten communities that collaborate to ensure overall well-being and the island’s maintenance. Agricultural production is mainly based on tubers like potatoes and oca, as well as crops like corn, quinoa, beans, and peas.
    • In addition to its agricultural resources, the island also boasts two viewpoints from where one can appreciate the impressive landscape of Lake Titicaca in its entirety. The ceremonial centers of Pachatata and Pachamama stand out, which the islanders continue to honor as part of their deeply rooted tradition and respect.
    • This island is an ideal place to spend the night and immerse oneself in a unique experiential experience, where stories, traditions, and authentic local cuisine are shared.
