Full Day Tour of Uros and Lake Titicaca – Uros and Taquile

Our local tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Puno at around 07:00 am and will take you to the harbor lake Titicaca in Puno to start the tour; we will visit the following places:

Tour of Uros Islands. Once on the motor boat, we will start the excursion of Lake Titicaca by visiting “The Uros Floating Islands;” these are small local communities, families, who have lived on the reed Islands for decades. Centuries ago the small indigenous Uros tribe conceived of the islands as a way to isolate and protect themselves from rival tribes, those of the Collas and the Incas. The people of Uros harvested the reeds in the shallows of the lake, bundled them together tightly and built floating island platforms wide enough to build their reed houses and canoes; this way they created their own little worlds.

With the help of our local guide, we will not only admire the way the locals of los Uros make everything of reed, but also we will get to understand and learn a bit more about their lifestyles Travel to Uros and Taquile - Lake Titicaca tours and customs.

Tour of Taquile Island. After strolling around the floating Islands of los Uros, we will go on a 2-hour boat ride towards “Taquile Island.” This natural island is a traditional Quechua speaking community full of ancient agricultural terraces.

The population of Taquile was relatively isolated from the mainland until 1950s; here the notion of “community and family” is still very strong among them. The weaving tradition of the locals goes back to early civilizations and that is why the people of Taquile keep elements from pre-Inca Andean cultures alive in the present. All weaving is done on pre-Inca fixed and pedal looms. The most characteristic garments of this community of Lake Titicaca are the so-called “Chullos”, a knitted hat with an earflap, and “The Calendar Waistband”, depicting the annual cycles connected to rituals and agricultural activities.

Once we reach the shores of Taquile Island, we will walk up Tours and Travel packages to Uros and Taquile on Lake Titicaca along a beautiful narrow path, enjoying impressive views of the Lake Titicaca and gorgeous little houses inhabited by the direct decedents of the Inca Culture on the way. At the top of the Island, we will have some free time to explore the village on our own and afterwards will meet the group for lunch at a local family restaurant where we will have a great cultural experience.

After the guided tour, we will walk down to the harbor again to take our boat back to Puno city. We will be back in Puno at about 17:00 pm. Transfer back to your hotel.
