About Us

The Vistadome train to Machu Picchu is an affordable way to have a wonderful, elegant journey to the citadel’s station (that is, Aguas Calientes). Roof and lateral windows for enjoying Andean landscapes are just one of many treats. Choose your best time for having this great vacation!

Choosing Your Best Time for Machu Picchu on Vistadome Train

Indeed, this is a matter of personal preferences (and sometimes schedule availability).

From April until October, it’s dry season in the Cusco region. Here in Cusco City, weather is  cold but any rain at all, coldest months being from June to August. However, the Machu Picchu area is always warmer.

From November until March, it’s rain season. Although the temperatures are hotter everywhere, pourings will happen but they are brief and not on a daily basis. Given that the Machu Picchu citadel has 2 daily shifts for touring, 6:00 am to 12:00 and 12:00 to 5:30 pm, there is plenty of time with no rain whatsoever for the guided visits.

The comfortable, elegant Vistadome train is a 100% relaxing way of going to Machu Picchu: it is cheaper than the VIP Hiram Bingham train but still offers everything a seasoned traveler will want, like the panoramic windows both on the ceiling and laterals for you to enjoy all the variety of Andean views (massive green mountains, the flowing river, lush vegetation and more), a typical live musical, costume show on board and also a fashion event of fine alpaca garments like sweaters and scarfs with Andean designs. Cozy, wide seats, a delicious snack and top service on board are also part of this totally pleasant experience. Last but not least, you will be riding for around 7 hours to and from on this relaxing train, ideal for people who love the road or in this case, the railroad!

The best way to see the whole landscape of the way.

Our Suggested Best Times to Extend Your Vistadome Tour to Machu Picchu

  • If coming by mid-February, you can also enjoy the amazing regional Carnivals. An atmosphere of immense joy and celebration, with typical dances, music, food and drinks, both in Cusco City and around.
  • On June 24th, we have the mighty Inti Raymi or Sun Festival, when the ancient Incas welcomed the new year and worshipped their main divinity, the Sun God, provider of light and life. Nowadays it is an unforgettable event taking place at 3 wonderful spots in Cusco City: the Koricancha temple, the Plaza de Armas (Main Square) and the mythical Sacsayhuaman fortress.
  • Finally, on October 8th there is the Moray Raymi, at the Inca site named likewise. This site is quite impressive, it was an agricultural research laboratory in times of the empire, amid the wonderful Andean landscapes, designed as concentric circles and horizontal terraces at different conditions, for experimentation with their crops. On this date, the rituals are aimed at giving thanks to the Sun God for an abundant harvest.
