Pukara Town Church and Museum

Pukara is a small town located 106 km from Puno. Pucara was the first regional population centre in the northern of Lake Titicaca during the Late Formative Period, providing valuable insights into the origins of Andean civilization in the highlands. During the peak local town people covered over a square kilometre and housed thousands of bureaucrats, priests, artisans, farmers and possibly warriors.

This is the town where the famous ‘’toritos de pukara’’ are made. These are hung on the doors or put on the roof of the houses for good luck. The Pucara Culture had a big impact in a pre-Inca times. They had a good knowledge of engineering and architecture. The Pukara style is identified by impressive monolithic sculptures. After visiting the local museum of the town, we will continue the ride to Puno where will bring you to the hotel.
