About Us

The Titicaca Lake 2-Day package is truly one of a kind: includes motorboat sailing, visiting islands (you will spend night 1 at them), priceless natural beauty, history, folklore, shopping and more. Here are the FAQ so you will have the best of times!

1. Where does this tour begin?

It begins in the town of Puno, which is beside the lake. However, if you are coming first to Cusco City, we have a wonderful 1-day package called the Route of the Sun which takes you from there on a highway trip until Puno, enjoying many attractions along the way. Please check the Route of the Sun description, you may want to link it with the Titicaca Lake 2-Day tour.

2. How can I deal with high elevation effects?

This is the most FAQ. Actually, altitude effects at first may seem a problem, but several measures have proved to be the solution. First, there’s acclimatization: you can arrive 2 or 3 days before either in Cusco City (3.400 meters above sea level) or Puno (3.812 meters above sea level)  so your body will start compensating for the lack of oxygen. Also, avoid much physical activity, get rest, increase your intake of bottled, no gas water; coca leaves tea is a powerful energy-booster and elevation symptoms troubleshooter. Finally, there are specific pills that make everyone ok, although only a few people will get to the point of needing them.

3. I’ve seen the Titicaca Lake 2-Day tour includes motorboat sailing. And the Route of the Sun is a full day bus ride. How can I beat moving sickness?

We’ve got the right answers for this FAQ. Indeed, moving sickness may happen when water waves and sounds are processed by our senses (sight, hearing, body receptors), entangling their functioning thus causing problems like nausea, headache and vomiting. The same applies to road traveling.

While sailing, you must avoid looking right at the water, set your sight on the horizon and the mountains; take deep breaths constantly, have your head up and balanced as much as possible. Avoid much greasy foods during the tour.

While on a bus, it is the same, just also try to keep your entire body still, don’t get caught on swaying motion.

Finally, there are over-the-counter pills which will prevent nausea and throwing up.

4. How is the region’s climate throughout the year?

It’s almost the same as in Cusco. There are two seasons: dry and rainy. The first goes from April to October, is very cold, windy, no rain at all but with much sunlight. The second spans from November to March, is still cold, windy, with brief pourings -although spaced- and sunlight too.

5. What kind of clothing should I bring?

All year long, we can say that the weather is cold and windy, it is indeed colder than Cusco City. On rainy season it may be warmer but still. You should bring winter clothes all over, including gloves and a scarf. Also, you must always bring a sun hat, dark glasses and sun cream because sunshine is constant. Insect repellent will not be needed. Have a suitable backpack and also running shoes.

6. What kind of snacks should I take?

For in-between meals hours, you must bring no-gas bottled water (very recommended for altitude symptoms) and coca leaves tea is always a great additional option. Do not eat much greasy products, pack fruits, cereal bars, chocolates, crackers and similars. Have some plastic bags for disposals, antibacterial hand gel (before eating, etc)

7. What can you recommend about shopping?

Puno city has markets where you will find all types of typical Andean products, from clothing to silverware and pottery etc. Additionally, the people on the islands are famous for the originality, quality and beauty of the typical products they make. We suggest you to have Peruvian money at reach, because it is a long journey back on boat if you miss the chance! Finally, TOUR IN PERU is a socially-caring company and on this note we ask our dear travelers to consider making a donation to the aboriginal island people, which can be either school items (notebooks and the likes), food supplies or even cash.

8. Are we going to spend night 1 in an island’s house?

It is an important FAQ to clarify, because some people get confused on this matter. Our Titicaca Lake 2-day tour, as part of a close contact with local history and culture, includes staying night 1 in a regular family house on the Amantani island.

With our insider answers to these FAQ, you are now ready for a top Titicaca Lake 2-Day tour! Don’t wait any longer now to start planning the best vacation in Peru!
