Using Money
Many places accept credit cards, and some accept U.S. Dollars. The official currency in Peru is the Nuevo Sol. These are accepted everywhere. It is better to pay in small denominations, since some stores do not accept large denominations. Many do not accept bills with tears.

You should reserve tickets for Machu Picchu or the Inca Trail well in advance, since there are only a certain number of people who can enter per day. Sometimes tickets can be sold out several months in advance.
