DETAILED ITINERARY

This destination is currently considered one of the favorites to visit during your trip to Peru. Due to its location, it is ideal for disconnecting from our daily routine. During our journey, we will be able to see:

Rainbow Mountain: The origin of this mountain is due to two very important factors. The first is an internal factor, thanks to the collision of tectonic plates (Continental Plate and Nazca Plate), which gave rise to a large number of mountains, including the formation of the Andes Mountain Range. In this place, it resulted in a pyramid-shaped mountain. This area had various layers of minerals, and when the Earth’s mantle lifted, these layers became evident as stripes on the mountain. The second factor is the external one, which aids in the preservation of the site. This is primarily the environment in which it is located. The main peculiarity of this place is that it is located in front of the Ausangate snow-capped mountain, which means its climate is always temperate.

By positioning ourselves in the upper part of the mountain, we will be able to distinguish the outstanding colors. These are produced by the abundance of minerals in the area:

  • Red: Iron.
  • Green: Copper Oxide.
  • Blue: Calcium Carbonate.
  • White: Lime and Limestone.
  • Yellow: Sulfide Mineral and Sulfur.

Behind the mountain, we can find a space with a unique ecosystem characterized by the terrain. It is known as the Red Valley and features an extensive stretch of this color caused by iron oxide minerals. All of this space makes it an incredible destination.

This saves time and reduces the stress associated with independent planning. Of course, it’s important to ensure that the agency is authorized and reputable, like us at TOUR IN PERU.

Is the trail very difficult?

No, the trail from Cusipata to Rainbow Mountain is relatively well-maintained, making it much more accessible than before. The average travel time is around 2 hours. However, if participants are in good physical condition, it can be completed in less time. Each participant sets their own pace, and the guide is always available. Nevertheless, it’s advisable for our clients to be in good physical condition and acclimatized to the altitude. For this reason, we recommend arriving in Cusco at least 2 days or 1 day before the tour to acclimate properly to the altitude.

Yes, in general, it is recommended to use trekking shoes for any hike in the Cusco region. They should be well-fitted to your feet, which will make the hike more comfortable compared to using brand-new shoes.
