DESCRIPTION OF THE PLACES TO VISIT

During our adventure, we’ll journey through different places that hold mystery and breathtaking views. The places we’ll see are:

  • Capulioc: Its name in the original Inca language means “where there are Capuli trees,” which used to be abundant in the area according to locals. Here, there’s a beautiful viewpoint providing the first glimpse of Choquequirao. You can also enjoy the stunning Apurímac Valley, and the snow-capped mountains of the Vilcabamba Range, occasionally witness the astonishing spectacle of the Condor’s flight, and rarely spot the Andean bear descending into the canyon in search of food.
  • Choquequirao: Located in the Vilcabamba region within the La Convención province, at the edge of the Amazon rainforest, it served as a refuge for the last Incas during the Spanish conquest. Built by the Incas possibly during the 15th century under the reign of Pachacútec Inca Yupanqui, its exact purpose remains uncertain. Some believe it was a ceremonial center, while others suggest administrative and agricultural roles. Like Machu Picchu, Choquequirao exhibits advanced Incan construction techniques, including agricultural terraces, plazas, temples, and other buildings. Its structure resembles the imperial capital of Cusco, housing areas dedicated to the Sun, mallquis, earth, water, and other Andean deities. Additionally, the urban sector contains spaces for both royalty and commoners.
