DESCRIPTION OF THE PLACES TO VISIT

This destination is currently considered one of the favorites to visit during your trip to Peru. Due to its location, it is ideal if we are looking to disconnect from our daily routine. We will be able to see on our journey:

  • Soraypampa: This town is located at the base of the snow-capped peaks and is where two paths diverge. The first one leads to our destination, Humantay Lagoon, which is a short path surrounded by local flora and fauna. The second path is longer and allows us to reach the Salkantay Pass located high in the mountains, and from there continue to the Machu Picchu sanctuary. This town is the starting point for both hikes, so the main activity nowadays is the breeding of horses and mules to facilitate the transportation of equipment and people embarking on the 4 or 5-day experience heading to Machu Picchu.
  • Humantay Lagoon: It is named Humantay due to its location at the base of the peak with the same name. The formation of this lagoon is the result of years of thawing, and its peculiar turquoise color is produced by microalgae, possibly of the species Microcystis aeruginosa and Oscillatoria. When combined with the clarity of the water and solar radiation, they create a distinctive effect that captivates everyone.
