Great Alternatives for 2024

Great Alternatives for 2024

If the Classic 4-Day Inca Trail is Sold Out

We have lots of alternative treks We have a version of the Inca Trail trek that is two days and no camping as well. Each of these treks is beautiful perhaps even more stunning than the Inca Trail. You will end your trek at the town below Machu Picchu called Aguas Calientes, spend your last evening in a hotel rather than camping. The next day explore Machu Picchu. As far as which trek is best for you – that is hard to say. The treks are all challenging, but Salkantay is the most challenging and Huchuy Qosqo the least challenging – but they are all beautiful. Perhaps you can take a look at our websites and see what appeals most to you.

It may be the case that there are no Classic 4 Day Trail spaces left

For the closer dates you have available for traveling… our first advice is you can book one of our amazing alternatives for those dates and secondly, choose a farther date for the Classic Trek, when you’ll have time again.

Also, on the top menu of our website home

You can click one of the Inca Trail or Machu Picchu tours to see the itineraries. It is certainly possible to personalize any of them to your best liking! Next we will give you a list of amazing suggestions for hikes or classic tours to Machu Picchu!

1. The Short 2 Day Inca Trail in 2024

The first alternative if what you want is to experience the Classic Inca Trail

2. The Lares Trek – 4 Days in 2024

Hiking and Vivential Tourism to the Fullest

  • This hiking adventure is one version of the Inca Trail, which includes wonderful cultural vivential tourism and train rides, to finally reach the amazing Machu Picchu site; simple such a gorgeous experience.
  • The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu is a path that will take you by various landscapes like snow mountains, fertile valleys, mighty rivers, archaeological ruins, living culture, and a first-class modern wonder: Machu Picchu.
  • It does not close in February, has availability all year long with daily departures.
  • You can check the Lares Trek – 4 Days itinerary and perhaps it’ll be the right alternative, your perfect fit!

3. Salkantay Trek – 5 Days in 2024

Feeling of personal achievement after a great combination along the way.

  • The most defiant in Peru, reaches the highest Andean altitudes and snowies, then goes downwards into the Amazon jungle border, until the grand finale at the Machu Picchu hilltop citadel! It combines a series of archaeological, natural, adventurous and vivential experiences along the way.
  • The Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu is the first option when permits for the Inca Trail sell out and if what you want is to hike longer before getting to Machu Picchu.
  • Check the Salkantay Trek itinerary, it is available all months, all days. Also, you can talk to our travel professionals to personalize a great alternative itinerary for this hike!

All Inca Trails have different ways of arriving to Machu Picchu. Keep in mind that no matter which Inca Trail package you choose, it’ll always end with the grand tour of the Machu Picchu Heritage Site. What will vary is the previous part or how you will get there (in other words, all the routes are different and exciting).

4. Classic Machu Picchu Tours by Train in 2024

NO Inca Trail Availability? Then go on a train ride to get Machu Picchu.

  • Machu Picchu by train – 1 Day: starts with a relaxing bus ride from Cusco City until the Ollantaytambo train station, then a magical train journey until Aguas Calientes (next to the citadel) and finally the amazing tour of the archaeological site. Read the Machu Picchu – 1 Day itinerary for full details!
  • Machu Picchu by train – 2 Days: it is very alike to the 1-day option, but you’ll have 2 days instead to enjoy Aguas Calientes, and the visit to the hilltop sanctuary is in the second journey. It gives you more time to delight in this unforgettable circuit. Optional: famous hike of the Huayna Picchu mountain! All details in the Machu Picchu 2-Day itinerary.

Additional Info

Inca Trail Availability and Permits

Inca Trail Availability and Permits

  • Both trails close in February. The Inca Trail is CLOSED every year in FEBRUARY for maintenance, allowing conservation projects, and because of the rain, so both the Short 2-Day and the Classic 4-Day aren’t available anytime this month.
  • There is no loophole if permits are sold out. No travel agency or tour operator will be able to offer you a space for the Inca Trail, unless there are available permits shown on the calendar for the date you want to start the trek. Keep in mind also that if there’s 90 spaces or less in a given date, it means you have to book the Inca Trail as fast as you can, since the remaining tickets may sell out within the following hours or even minutes.
  • Cancelled tickets are not transferable. Also it is important to say that NO matter how many clients cancel their Inca Trail reservations, NOBODY else can use these spaces as the system is designed to prevent some companies to book such spaces with made-up information in advance, and then change it with that of their last-minute real clients. Trek dates and previously selected routes aren’t transferable in any case either.

We hope you find this information about the Inca Trail Availability useful and if so, start dreaming about the next adventure in 2024! Come here and enjoy an unforgettable traveling experience with TOUR IN PERU!
