The best times to visit the sacred valley of the Incas is during the dry season (April to October). And we know you do not want to be left out, because is one of the top tourism regions in Peru and it is close to Cusco City! You will find amazingly beautiful, strongly relaxing, and energetic nature, among many other typical Andean attractions.
Best times, let’s see it
Weather Conditions in the Sacred Valley
Here in the Peruvian Andes, and the Cusco-Sacred Valley region particularly, we have a rainy season that goes from late November until late March. However, and quite fortunately for all of us, the rains are not very frequent and also they are heavy but quick.
The temperature during the rainy season is higher, and warmer because it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere. However, a rain poncho and rainproof tennis shoes will solve any problem. During the rainy season, prices also tend to lower and travel companies launch discounted prices.
From April until mid-November, the temperatures are lower, especially between June and August, but there is no rain at all, not a drop. Some warm garments will also solve any problem.
Best Times to Visit the Sacred Valley
Late February
because it is Carnival season and there is a general festive, folkloric, typical Andean atmosphere. The weather is very warm, radiantly sunny and it may rain sometimes.
From March to May: still warm, beautiful weather but cooling down in May. As the rains stop, the wonderful attractions of the Sacred Valley become available 24/7, such as the typical food and souvenir markets in Qorao, Pisac, and Ollantaytambo, the amazing archaeological sites in Pisac and Ollantaytambo, the ruins in Chinchero and the striking natural beauty of Urubamba city.
June
indeed one of the best times to visit Cusco. We have the classic Inti Raymi Festival, central day on June 24th, which is one of the most important Andean celebrations, because it remembers the beginning of the year in the ancient Inca empire and the worship of their main divinity, the Sun God (Inti).
It is indeed a journey back in time to recreate almost all aspects of the old Inca culture and beliefs. Rituals are held all over Cusco City and the Sacred Valley region.
Best times of the year to visit the Sacred Valley
From July to October: it is still dry season, so the Sacred Valley is available full-time, every day! The weather gets colder but nothing a warm jacket can not completely solve. Urubamba city is always with its majestic natural beauty, typical food, and quite calm, relaxing energy. The guided visits to the amazing Inca ruins in Chinchero, Pisac, and Ollantaytambo can be done at any time of the day.
From November to January
The climate gets gradually warmer and the brief, heavy rains come again, but it is still a great time to visit archaeological sites, to go sightseeing and shopping at the typical popular markets: Ollantaytambo, Pisac, and Qorao.
There you will find Andean-designed clothing, all kinds of handicrafts and souvenirs, delicious typical meals and fruits, and Andean-only animals like llamas and alpacas, and these are villages that still live mostly under their rural, Inca-times traditions, particularly Ollantaytambo.
