The Little Things Add Up
Some small matters can become much, much bigger over the course of a trip. Like your toothbrush. A missing toothbrush can become a big matter that takes away from the joy of a vacation.
Or being on a long hike and finding out that you’re the only person that didn’t bring water.
When planning to travel to Machu Picchu, there are a host of such ‘little things’ that deserve attention so that your experience in Peru is pure joy without distraction.
Here’s a list of things to be sure of before boarding your plane to Peru.
Tickets Please
So you’ve gotten time set aside for a trip to Machu Picchu. But do you have your tickets? As many things as there are that can be done last-minute, tickets should not be left to chance.
Depending on the time of year, tickets to Machu Picchu can sell out days or even months in advance. You will not be able to buy tickets at the gate and the same goes for spaces on the Inca trail; this should all be taken care of through an authorized tour operator like TOUR IN PERU. A little advance preparation will prevent you from arriving in Cusco and spending your entire trip stuck there! Cusco is an enjoyable location, don’t get us wrong. But without Machu Picchu, it would be like reading a good novel and then finding that it’s missing a chapter.
Deep Breaths
The altitude will be different than what you’re used to at home. The good news is that Cusco is situated higher than Machu Picchu. So if you get used to the air in Cusco, you’ll do fine in the Lost Incan City. Still, some forethought is advisable. Find some pills that help with altitude sickness through your family practitioner before departing, bring plenty of water, and don’t plan on going through your tour like it’s a marathon.
Essential Guides
Once upon a time it was possible to enter Machu Picchu without a guide. But recent changes have made it a necessity. This is a relatively simple step that TOUR IN PERU can easily take care of. It’ll spare you from the heavy expenses of the on-the-spot tour guides that wait by the entrance.
Early Bird Gets the Amazing Photos
Believe us here at TOUR IN PERU when we say that there is no sight on earth like Machu Picchu at sunrise. If you have the opportunity to enter Machu Picchu during the early morning, take it. You will understand why it has been held as a sacred site over the centuries. Granted, nobody can guarantee clear weather in the morning. Ideal weather takes place from April through October.
Hold It Right There
Be sure to use the bathroom before entering the citadel. There are no bathrooms onsite and, of course, improvised bathrooms are not permitted. It doesn’t matter how sneaky one might think they are. You’ll be on top of a mountain.
Water You Waiting For?
Water will be essential, but you will need to bring it in your own reusable water container. Disposables aren’t permitted so as to eliminate the risk of littering. This is a big step towards keeping Machu Picchu looking immaculate and awe-inspiring.
Don’t Get Bugged
You won’t be in any danger from insects, but they can be a nuisance. Mosquitoes will be the biggest one. You can bring repellant and wear long-sleeved clothing to reduce your chances of getting bitten. It’s easier to take pictures if your hands aren’t busy scratching.
It’s true that there are a lot of things to take care of before your journey to Peru can commence, but It’s such a psychological relief to be able to travel to Machu Picchu and back without any snags to steal your attention from the adventure at hand.
The most critical parts of your adventure can be handled by making arrangements with TOUR IN PERU.
We look forward to seeing you.
