In an increasingly competitive global environment, strategic management (particularly the strategic planning process) has become a cornerstone for the sustainability of tourism enterprises. This academic thesis, conducted at the National University of San Antonio Abad of Cusco (UNSAAC), provides empirical evidence on how strategic planning directly impacts the business competitiveness of a leading tourism operator based in the Cusco region: TOUR IN PERU.

Research Objective
The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between strategic planning (dimensions: formulation, implementation, and evaluation) and business competitiveness (dimensions: continuous improvement, human capital, market and customer) in the company TOUR IN PERU during the 2019–2023 period.

- Population: 62 stakeholders of TOUR IN PERU
- Sample: Non-probabilistic sampling based on researcher’s criteria

- Instruments: 12 items for the Strategic Planning variable and 12 items for the Business Competitiveness variable
- Reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha): Strategic Planning: 0.909 and Business Competitiveness: 0.921
Key Findings
The statistical analysis using Spearman’s correlation coefficient (Rho = 0.563; p < 0.01) revealed a positive, significant, and substantial correlation between strategic planning processes and business competitiveness in the TOUR IN PERU tourism operator.
This confirms that a well-formulated, properly implemented, and regularly evaluated strategic plan leads to tangible improvements in innovation, customer service, talent management, and market responsiveness.
Key Conclusions
- Strategic planning significantly influences TOUR IN PERU’s business competitiveness.
- The most impactful dimensions were strategic evaluation and market and customer management.
- It is recommended to enhance strategic formulation through tools such as SWOT analysis, the BCG Matrix, and SMART objectives.

This thesis makes a significant contribution to the theory and practice of business management in sustainable tourism, presenting a real-life case of a company certified by international standards such as ISO, TourCert, and SABP – CALTUR. This research can serve as:
