Daily Itinerary for the Lares Trek
Day 1: Cusco City – Calca – Lares – Wacawasi
At 6:00 am our private transportation will pick you at the hotel, we will ride across the unforgettable Sacred Valley of the Incas, making a stop at the typical village of Calca to visit the popular market. Afterwards we continue until the Lares village, where, if you want, you can enjoy the hot springs before a nutritious and tasty lunch. Total hiking time on day 1 will be about 4 hours, starting in Lares after lunch until past the Wacawasi village, the place for our first camping night at 3.880 meters above sea level. We will hike through beautiful landscapes and a very healthy, clean environment, a great exercise for the whole body and mind, really reviving, relaxing and energizing.

Day 2: Wacawasi – Ipsaykassa – Patacancha
After a nutritious breakfast, there is a 3-hour upward hike until the Ipsaykassa pass at an amazing 4.450 meters above sea level! On the way we will see the typical Andean camelids like llamas and alpacas at their natural habitat and you will be able to take great pictures. Lunch will be next to the beautiful Ipsaycocha lagoon, located beside the Ipsaykassa pass. After lunch there is a 2:30-hour hiking stretch and then the path turns downwards for 1:30 hour until the Patacancha village, located at 3.700 meters above sea level. This village will be the campsite for night 2. Put on warm clothes, have a hot beverage and enjoy the vastness of the Andean nightly sky.
Day 3: Patacancha – Pallata – Pumamarca – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
From our campsite in Patacancha, we’ll take a shuttle until the Pallata village and then hike upwards for almost 1 hour until the Pumamarca Inca site for a professionally-guided tour. There is then a 3-hour hike across the valley, actually taking a section of the Inca Trail and from there down still inside the valley along the bank of the beautiful River Patacancha until the amazing village of Ollantaytambo.

We’ll have lunch there, take some time to rest and then in the afternoon you may want to go for a walk along the village’s Main Square and next visit the Inca archaeological remains which are close beside the village. We will also have dinner in Ollantaytambo and then go to the train station, for our ride until the Aguas Calientes village nearby Machu PIcchu, to spend night 3.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco City
After breakfast very early at the hotel, our professional guide will take you to the bus up to the Machu Picchu citadel, for an unforgettable 3-hour tour of the majestic Inca sanctuary and luxury retreat. The tour covers the most important spots of the site like the Intihuatana and the Temple of the Condor. And after that, there will be time available for you to continue exploring the citadel on your own itinerary. Next, back to Aguas Calientes by bus and later in the afternoon go to the train station for the return ride to Cusco City, where you will be taken to your hotel after a fantastic travel and hiking experience.
