Enjoying the Aguas Calientes Village

As we mentioned, Aguas Calientes is a small town very close to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. These are its main attractions so that you can fully enjoy in addition to the tour of the citadel:

In Aguas Calientes you will find a variety of craft shops
  • Manco Capac Square: it is the heart of the village, where the restaurants and bars are for a great lunch and/or some drinks. Also, you can sit on the benches and relax watching the wonderful 360 degrees mountainous landscape, having some rest after the Machu Picchu tour for example, and absorbing the strong natural energy of the Cusco region. Surely a great spot for pictures too.
  • The Butterfly Research Institute: at a walking distance from the Square, there’s this wonderful place where you will find all kinds of typical butterflies in a simulated natural habitat. Includes a valuable, very illustrating guided tour of the place conducted by an Institute specialist.
  • The Thermal Pools: perhaps the most famous place in Aguas Calientes. People go there to relax 100% after hiking and touring. They have pools of natural, mineral water with varied temperatures, very good for a thorough rest. Drinks can be delivered to your place.
  • The Souvenirs Market: there you have all Peruvian typical products on display: clothing, handicrafts, pottery, bags, you name it. Every visitor certainly has a great time there.
  • The Museum: ideal for a visit before the Machu Picchu tour, because of all the background information and archaeological objects. You will become an expert on the history of the sanctuary citadel.
  • Inca Spas: they mostly offer typical Inca massages and relaxing, healthy treatments but also Western techniques, so you can find everything. Most if not all visitors give a 5-star rating to these places.

So, here’s all you need to know for a magical, perfect 2-day tour in Machu Picchu with a great time in Aguas Calientes!
