About Us

The Palomino islands half-day tour is a unique adventure at the Lima ocean, on a motorboat, also seeing, swimming and playing with plenty of adorable sea lions! Doing it can be the perfect complement to a Cusco region-Machu Picchu vacation!

The Islands

This amazing 4-hour tour on motorboat not only covers the Palomino islands, indeed you will visit another ones full of history, marine fauna and beauty.

  • San Lorenzo island: very close to the Lima/Callao bay, it has a 20 km2  area of solid rock. In pre-Hispanic times it was used as a religious site, when Peru became a Spanish colony it was used as a burial ground for sailors and pirates (because the gold and silver of the Incas attracted many adventurers) and then in Republican times several scientific studies were conducted there, even by famous researchers like Charles Darwin, no less. We will sail very close this place, impressive and historical at the same time.
  • El Frontón island: a little further from San Lorenzo stands this wonderful, massive island, ideal for great pictures with the vast ocean background. Nowadays there is a top-security prison on it, like the famous Alcatraz penitentiary once was at the San Francisco bay.
  • Cavinzas islands: these are more complex geological structures, for there are also caves and islets, they are not pure closed rock like the ones before. This place is home for an adorable variety of sea animals: big pelicans, gulls and the famous Humboldt penguins (named after the renowned German naturalist) which use to briefly show up for visitors. Surely you will take amazing pictures and be deeply moved by such beautiful animals as our motorboat sails by.
  • Palomino islands: these also have caves, and are the habitat for plenty of friendly, cheerful sea lions who have learned to swim and play with visitors. You will see them crowding the rocks and jumping happily into the water! It is an unforgettable experience, especially for children!
  • Also included in the Palomino islands tour is a sail by the place called El Camotal, a section of Lima’s Callao port which was submerged by the strong 1746 earthquake!

Useful Information for this Tour

The best time to do the Palomino islands tour is from late October until late March, for it is hot season in Lima, but if you come another time, just a warm jacket will do (since the Peruvian coast is on a long desert, there is no problem with rain throughout the year). Also, in Lima there are of course no altitude sickness issues, since a good part of the city is at sea level and the rest gets to a maximum of 140 meters altitude. It is just a 1:20 hour flight from Cusco City.

If you are coming to Cusco, the Palomino islands motorboat tour at the Lima/Callao bay can be the perfect additional package! Ideal for Peru’s sunny season, so you may want to refresh swimming at the sea, enjoying the typical marine life and playing with adorable sea lions.
