The Sun Gate is made of steps that makes you  believe that these were control gates for the people who enter and go out of the Sanctuary. It´s some of the most important archaeological constructions that connects with Machu Picchu. Getting to the Sun Gate means the end of the road, and also  that from that place is all downhill. The Sun Gate point is the highest elevation on the route, and you will get a chance to enjoy your first inspirational view of Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Cusco- Km 104- Machu Picchu

Early in the morning around 4-5am our staff will pick you from your hotel in Cusco to transfer you to the Ollantaytambo train station, from where you will board the train and start spectacular view ride until it stops in the jungle at Km 104, the starting point of the trek. You will head to the ruins of Chachabamba and Wiñaywayna, walk to Intipunku (the gate of the sun).  At Intipunku  you will get the first glimpse of Machu Picchu. After a short and easy hike down, we enjoy the afternoon before we descend by bus to Aguas Calientes for a night in a hotel at your choice.

Day 2: Tour of Machu Picchu- Return to Cusco

Short Inca Trail Day 2: Tour of Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco 

After an early breakfast, we will take a bus which starts running at 5.30am towards Machu Picchu to enjoy the spectacular sunrise and a private guided tour. The bus tour takes around 30 minutes up the zigzag road to Machu Picchu. Our professional guide will slowly show you around the main areas recounting myths and legends passed down over the centuries and explaining about some of the advanced building techniques the Incas used. After the guided tour you will have plenty of free time to explore the ruins on your own.

The round trip to Aguas Calientes will be in late afternoon; from there train will take you to Ollantaytambo where our staff will pick you up to take a bus back to Cusco. If you feel like staying extra night in Aguas Calientes and need more time to explore the town,  with advanced notice we can make arrangements for you.
