The results of the contest Traveler’s Choice Awards 2013 organized by TripAdvisor placed to the magical Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in the first of the 25 most popular tourist attractions in the World for this year.
TripAdvisor is the the world’s largest travel portal site and has over 32 million members, whose votes recognized Machu Picchu Inca Sanctuary as their favorite. It is important to highlight that Machu Picchu is on the first place of this list over 1200 other popular monuments in the whole planet.
Also note that in second place on this list is the Temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the Taj Mahal of India in third, the Fortress of Petra in Jordan in fortha and Bayon Temple in Cambodia in fifth palce. The list follows with the Cathedral and Mosque of Cordoba in Spain, the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Russia, St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican, the Walls of Dubrovnik in Croatia and the Main Market Square in Krakow in Poland.
The 25 most attractive destinations in South America was also unveiled in this context; 10 out of these 25 attractions are located in Peru and 9 out of these 10 belong to the region of Cusco such as the Sacred Valley of the Incas (3), the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman (5) the Archaeological Complex of Pisac (10), the Cathedral of Cusco (11), the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun (18), Ollantaytambo (21) and Moray (23); the Monastery of Santa Catalina from Arequipa is also ranked in the 9th position of this list.
