This mountain spans around seven countries, 4,300 miles, and nearly covers the entire length of South America.
If you’re a hiker, knowing where to start can be difficult. That’s why we’ve put together this guide. From south to north, check out the top ten hikes in the Andes.

Cotopaxi, Ecuador 

We’ll start this list with Cotopaxi, the shielder of the Andes Mountains. This volcano is the most active in the world with over 19,347 feet. Use Quito to guide you through the tour of the Cotopaxi National Park. This area is suitable for different kinds of hikes including the Cotopaxi Trek and the Quilotoa Lagoon.

You’ll need to be an expert hiker before hiking to the top. This requires extra training which is below this article. So it’s not recommended for hikers. From the base of the towering volcano, you can see the beautiful turquoise water in Quilotoa Lagoon or trek to the Chuquirahuas forest.

In addition to the amazing landscape, enjoy the stunning view of native animals like majestic guanaco and the Andean fox. Explore the Cotopaxi National Park, located 32 miles south of Quito, meaning you’ll have to arrange transportation.

Rainbow Mountain, Peru

Recently discovered, Rainbow Mountain, also known as “Vinicunca”, has recently gained tourists’ hearts. It is considered as a holy site and rewards tourists with one of the most incredible views in Peru.

Rainbow Mountain is the second most popular tourist location in Peru. Because it is located close to Cusco, it is mostly combined with Inca Trail, another popular trek. One of the key things you should get ready for is its altitude. Although Machi Picchu is less than Cusco in terms of elevation, Rainbow Mountain is higher than Cusco.
