Tips on Weather and Clothing for the Cusco City Tour

Climate in Cusco. This region has two very defined weather terms: from April to October it is dry season and from November to March it is rainy season. If you are coming on rainy season, the temperature is mostly warm but there are not-so-frequent heavy, brief rains, some wind and sunny weather. Also, the natural scenery is much greener and you’ll find smaller crowds all around. On dry season, temperatures are much lower and the wind is stronger, but there isn’t any rain at all and sunlight is scarce. So in relation to clothing, this is what you should bring for the Cusco City Tour:

1. Rainy Season: waterproof cap, sunglasses, sunblock, t-shirt or shirt, warm jacket, water resistant pants, comfortable socks and preferably waterproof hking boots. Finally a rain poncho and umbrella. Wear casual, resistant clothes.

2. Dry season: Sun hat and wool hood (for the evening), shades, sunblock. Shirt, warm jacket, warm pants (we suggest you to layer up your clothes). Comfortable socks and also, preferably, jogging tennis shoes. Finally, wear casual, resistant clothes.

Additional Cusco City Tour Tips for 2019

  • Bring a small backpack with basic items like: small towel, toilet or towel paper, antibacterial hand sanitizer, sunblock. Also, bottled water (only in reusable containers like a canteen or flask, due to the plastic ban), some snacks, some plastic bags for disposals (which must be also biodegradable)
  • Have cash in soles (Peruvian money) because meals are not included and also we visit a typical market where you will find all kinds of Andean products and souvenirs
  • Bring your photographic camera, for the Cusco City Tour covers top places in and around town: religious temples (both Inca and Spanish), Inca archaeological sites like the immense Sacsayhuaman fortress, the Tambomachay ritual center, Koricancha Temple (the most important of the empire), plus the very kind citizens, many of them still wearing Andean clothes, typical markets where you will find wonderful Inca souvenirs like textiles, pottery, and the city itself.
  • Regarding altitude sickness, the best thing to do is to arrive a few days earlier, so most of the times your body will get used automatically to the lower oxygen in the air, and you will not feel tired, dizzy etc. One of the best tips is to drink plenty of water. If needed, coca leaves tea will supply a lot of energy and finally, there are over-the-counter pills which will get you going comfortably (but you have to ask your doctor first)
  • Please, you will not be allowed in any case to: drink alcoholic beverages, use rude or vulgar language, use any stimulants, promote violence or fights. Smoking is allowed in open spaces, except for touring sites. Check our Code of Conduct for travelers.
  • Bring your passport for entrance control at the tour attractions
  • Do not trust strangers and always ask our professional, bilingual guide, it is the safe way
