Covid-19 in Peru as of June 2022 – General News

  • There is no more lockdown anywhere in the country; also, we don’t have any curfews as we used in 2020 and a good part of 2021. Restaurants, bars, discos, live shows and similars are working normally. Very good news!
  • Vaccination process against coronavirus is also quite good here in Peru, also in the Cusco region. Latest news shows that 27.1 million people are fully vaccinated, which is 82.2% of the country’s population. This means all activities have resumed, including Andean Trails and regular tourism like Machu Picchu packages!
  • It’s about a month the Cusco region has not had any new cases or deaths related to covid-19, around mid-April 2022.

Covid-19 in Peru as of June 2022 – Required to Enter the Country

If you are a foreigner, the following are the requirements to enter our country:

  • Inside your flight(s), you are required to wear 2 disposable masks or just one with improved protection, such as KN95, FFP2 or KF94. This measure also applies inside all our airports. Good news for toddlers: under 2 years old, they can be maskless anytime inside flights or airports.
  • Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires all tourists from abroad to fill an online Sworn Statement of Health and Geolocation, 72 hours before flying to Peru. Our travel agency can surely help you with this form.
  • Overseas visitors more than 12 years old, must prove they have taken at least 2 shots of the vaccine. Or, they must show a negative molecular test (PCR) no older than 48 hours before boarding time. Travelers under 12 years old just have to show no symptoms. (Remember airports and many places are still using temperature scanners).

We also strongly suggest you come here to Peru with a good, reliable, travel insurance plan. Although the covid-19 vaccine greatly reduces the impact of the disease, there may still be complications and need for medical care, even hospitalization, particularly for the elderly and those with some underlying condition. Fortunately, the good news is there are plenty of hospital and clinic beds available now in 2022.
