About Us

Near to Cusco City, in the utterly beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas, there are two top destinations from the Inca era, Maras salt mines and the Moray agricultural lab. On this article we are going to answer the FAQ about the greatly exciting half-day tour.

1. What’s the tour duration?

It starts at 8:30 am with the pick up at your hotel in Cusco City and ends on the same day at 2:30 pm at Regocijo square, from where you will be taken to the hotel (included). The site-visiting itself starts at 9:00 am.

2. Which Inca site are we going to visit first?

First you will have a professionally-guided tour of the Maras salt mines, a wonderful mountainous landscape populated by salt deposits which were used in Inca times and nowadays too. Place full of history, quietude and natural energy.

Maras Moray

Maras a natural landscape where pink salt is extracted.

3. What should I know about the weather?

A FAQ indeed. Cusco region has two clearly outlined seasons throughout the year: the dry one (April to October) and the rainy one (November to March). The former is colder -although in the Sacred Valley is always warmer than in Cusco City- , no rain whatsoever, with low temperatures stronger from June to August. The latter is warmer everywhere, there are pourings -brief ones- twice a week on average but actually most days will still be rainless. Pourings will not really interfere with the tours, they don’t last too long.

4. Can I find typical products, souvenirs for shopping?

Yes of course. In Maras, you will be able to buy the famous natural, organic salt of the deposits, which has many benefits for the health. In Moray you will find all kinds of typical Andean clothing and souvenirs like pottery, silver figurines and much more.

Maras Moray

Pink salt, today is a highly priced product due to its benefits.

5. Is the Maras Moray tour alright for children?

Of course it is! It’s got everything: bus riding watching the amazing views, learning about Andean geography and Inca history, having a truly valuable ecological experience in the nature of the Andes range, learning the great wisdom the Incas had about the environment, clean, relaxing atmosphere and lots of space to walk and play. A happy occasion which will last for a lifetime.

6. What about altitude sickness?

Another FAQ indeed. It is not quite a problem actually. The first thing to do is arriving in Cusco City a few days earlier, allowing the organism to automatically adapt to low oxygen in the air. Drinking coca leaves tea and also bottled water will be of enormous help too. Finally, seldom people will need the “last resort” which would be pills for high elevation symptoms. In the end, everybody successfully deals with this physiological issue, and has a wonderful traveling time.

7. At such elevation, is any extra care needed?

You must not forget to bring a sun hat (preferably) or a cap, sunglasses, sunblock, insect repellent (just in case, it is not like the jungle border there). If on rainy season, a rain poncho or showerproof jacket will be good. Bring some snacks because you will only be able to have lunch after 2.30 pm.

8. What about entrance tickets to Maras Moray? Will I have to stand waiting in lines?

Not at all. Actually, when you book this tour with us, we take care of all entrance tickets and buy them on a special tourism system, at discounted prices, so you are actually saving time and money.

9. I have heard that people can do mystical ceremonies in Moray, like Inca weddings, Ayahuasca or San Pedro, etc. Is it possible?

Not anymore. The Moray archaeological site has been recently closed for such activities and is being watched by tourism security guards. It is only a regular tour place now. However, people currently do these ceremonies in Pisac, another wonderful Sacred Valley site close to Cusco City, a prior coordination with security officers is needed, but it can be done most of the times.

Maras Moray

This ceremony is very popular in this region of the Sacred Valley.

10. How is the availability for this Maras Moray half-day tour?

Fortunately, unlike the Inca Trails, this package is available daily, all year long. No need for booking it with that much advance.

Undoubtedly this half-day tour could be an ideal extension for your Machu Picchu package or any other you book with us!

We hope this FAQ article is actually illustrating! Check more details with our staff if needed and book this amazing tour to expand your perfect vacation in Peru!
