About Us

Due to our policy of constantly improving customer attention standards and due to the Inca Trail Closure in February, TOUR IN PERU organized a top-quality services workshop for all our porters and cooks. They are indeed key for the success of long, much in demand packages like the Classic 4-Day Inca Trail Hike or the Salkantay 4-day Trek both of which get to Machu Picchu, so there is a need for this additional, up-to-date training.

Top-Quality Services Workshop Subjects

Here are the areas that were discussed in our February 9th 2018 workshop:

  • Conservation of Natural Heritage: by a representative of the government agency for protected natural areas, called SERNANP, Professor Yely Villena and afterwards by the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary forest ranger, Isabel Palomino.
  • Food Handling and Hand Washing: by Mr. Luis Palomino, Executive Chef at Aranwa 5-star hotels, who remembered the need and showed techniques for proper preparation and hygiene according to international standards.

  • Top-Quality Service Procedures: by Cristina Achancaray, high official from the Regional Foreign Trade and Tourism Agency (DIRCETUR). Porters and cooks learned more about the Classic Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.
  • Conservation of Historical Heritage: presentation by Culture Department anthropologist Silverio Castañeda who gave important guidelines for protection of Inca roads and sites.
  • Introduction to the Integrated Management System: talk conducted by our consultant Rolando Cersso who elaborated on the advantages of a unified method of customer attention and services control.

Importance of the Work of Porters and Cooks

  • Porters are native from the Cusco region so they know all the geography, weather, and are essential for long, wanted packages like the Classic 4-Day Inca Trail or the Salkantay Trek, because they carry kitchenware, tents, provisions and sometimes extra luggage for the hikers. They have trained, updated professional criteria since their work is so central for all our clients’ well-being.
  • Our cooks are experienced, top personnel who are in charge of always providing a first-world standard in handling, preparing all food and beverages with international levels of quality and hygiene.
  • Both porters and cooks have the duty to fully set our campsites, keep them neat and running so they are a totally pleasant pause for our hikers.
  • Their top-quality services workshop covered both theory and practice in many aspects and was conducted in Spanish and Quechua (native Inca language for most of them).
