About Us

Our company is totally committed to environmental conservation and preservation of Peru’s cultural heritage. We went to an eco-friendly products fair to check on the news, because we’ve already been working only with biodegradable or reusable items.

New Boom of Eco-Friendly Products in Peru

It is now on the media. Disposable plastic pollution has become a major problem. It accumulates on land, rivers and sea, releasing toxic chemicals and its micro pieces being eaten by birds and fish. Worse, those plastic objects can remain in the environment for up to 400 years.

Thus, the Peruvian government has recently taken measures to reduce and eventually eliminate non-reusable plastics. These regulations apply to the tourism branch of course (although TOUR IN PERU has been following environmental protection procedures much time before, in all areas, for example, the cleaning of the Inca Trail).

We went to this eco-friendly fair to check the products, suppliers and catch up with the new regulations (issued December 2018). From now on, there is a disposable plastic ban in all Peru’s touristic destinations, natural protected areas and its use is no longer encouraged in hotels and daily activities. Also, the measures extend to support purchase of biodegradable and natural products.

All traveling activities now must include reusable items like kitchen and tableware, bottles, straws, food containers (no polystyrene foam anymore), biodegradable plastic bags, nylon bags. Entrance of disposable plastic items is not allowed anymore. For example, in our Inca Trails, all kitchen and table objects are washable (with natural detergents), garbage plastic bags are biodegradable, to sum it up, we do not have one-use plastic anymore. Read about our fantastic adventure on the Salkantay Trek-5 Days! This is all in accordance to our Integrated Management System, which also includes total protection of the ecology.

Eco-Friendly Products Fair – New Types of Tour Items

  • Eating related: we now have practical, portable cutlery, either washable or biodegradable (for example, bamboo forks, knives, spoons). Likewise with cups, glasses, straws, dishes. Instead of polystyrene foam containers, there are reusable or biodegradable ones (made of vegetal fibers and similars).
  • Hygiene and Health: now the rule is for organic, natural products which are quite more environment-friendly, like soap, shampoo, deodorants, perfumes, etc. Also in relation to dish and laundry detergents. This policy likewise applies to insect repellent, sunblock, lip balm, etc.
  • Bags: they must be either biodegradable (new types of plastic) or reusable-washable (nylon, reinforced cotton, etc).
  • Paper: only recyclable types and also for cardboards. Extends to packages, napkins, notebooks, towel and toilet paper, etc.

Please consider this information when organizing, for instance, your packing list for the Classic Inca Trail or Colca Canyon packing list.

For the moment, the only exceptions are for health reasons and snacks like potato chips.

This February 2019 eco-friendly products fair has allowed TOUR IN PERU to update with the offer, always looking for giving our customers a top-quality service and keep our environment clean!
